A world of possibilities. |
I've heard a lot of people say that to find the best places, you
should go where all the people are. After all, why take all the trouble
of sifting through the bad places when you can have someone else do it
for you? There is nothing wrong with following the crowd sometimes; it
can make things more efficient and enjoyable for everyone. However, I
find that you may miss out on many amazing and even life-changing
opportunities if you are following the wrong people. When you travel,
most people are split into two groups: tourists and locals. Many
tourists flock to certain areas that are of great importance or
splendour. These places tend to be particularly beautiful, impressive,
or historically significant. Certainly these are places that are worth
seeing, but don't let those places take over your entire trip. If you
want to truly know what an area is like, talk to the locals. See what
they do and where they go. Be smart and don't put yourself in
unnecessary danger, but allow yourself to explore the roads that the
tourists don't take. Aside from the cultural knowledge you'll gain, you
may also be able to get souvenirs much cheaper than you could in tourist
areas.
So be lenient when you travel. You might just find a great spot that you would have never known about otherwise.
